Notes Songs of Nathan Alterman

Nathan Alterman is a well-known Israeli poet, who has popularized himself in his country with his lyrics of many songs. A collection of his songs were the basis for a show called simply "The Songs of Nathan Alterman". There are 4 selections of this Vistas of Israel program:

1) Bomba Tzur sings The Song Of The Stage Manager (no Hebrew title).

2) Rivka Zohar sings Oreana, and is a sad, nostalgic song of an aging woman.

3) In A Yememite Vineyard is sung by the Ensemble of the show, The Songs of Nathan Alterman. It is the story of a future bride and her prospective husband-to-be coming to her home to ask for hand in marriage. The man tell his bride-to-be that her parents already know his intent.

4) Sats Mistasta, is the masculine and feminine forms of the verb "to grow" and is sung Rivka Zohar and Ezra Dagan. This is a song about the growing up of children and is the story of Israel itself.
