Notes :00 Folk Music of Israel/Hannah Messenger & Israel Yizhaky

This program is about 2 young Israeli folk singers. The first, Hannah Messenger, has had a very varied career, including serving in the Israeli navy, a paymaster in the army, an airline hostess, a ballet student in the United States, a winner of singing awards and an Israeli folk singer all by age 24. Israel Yizhaky is an actor, composer, lyricist band leader and singer. He is reminiscent of the cafe singers of Paris, although he is distinctly Israeli. This program presents 7 selections from both singers:

1) Chemdati, "Dance With Me" is a joshing piece about boys and girls asking one another to take a chance and dance and is Ms. Messenger's first hit. 1:29 - 2:41

2) Numi, Numi, Sleep, Sleep is a lullaby sung by Ms. Messenger, telling a child to go to sleep and that no harm would come to the child because of the father's protection. 2:55 - 5:03

3) Shir Hameshek, Quiet Shores, is sung by Ms. Messenger. 5:30 - 7:59

5) Tirkod Iti, Dance With Me, Faster, Faster is sung by Ms. Messenger. 8:08 - 10:07

6) Shir Ha'bokrim, Song Of The Cowboys, is sung by Mr. Yizhaky and is accompanied by the Hed Artzi Vocal Ensemble. 12:00 - 12:43

7) Kishuf, A Bit Of Magic, is a teasing love song sung by Ms. Messenger. 13:00 - 13:42
