The Recorded Sound Archives (RSA) is a unit of FAU Libraries Special Collections department. We are located in the Wimberly Library on FAU's Boca Raton campus.

Originally established in 2002 as a small project dedicated to the preservation of recorded Jewish music, it has matured into a robust digitization operation for all types of sound recordings.

Notes Written by Jeffrey Jamner, Piano: It was an honor to record these trios with Yosef and Michael. Michael was a consummate musician who brought a quiet sense of humor to rehearsals. Yosef ‘s interpretation of the music was like having Shalom Aleichem’s stories came to life through his violin. The engineer was David Hancock who was a real veteran of analog recording and an accomplished violinist. He claimed that he could make edits not possible with the digital technology of the time. We recorded in a church on the Upper East Side of Manhattan on ½ inch tape at 32 inches per second, which allowed for incredible sound quality. I am grateful for Barry Serota’s legacy for preserving this beautiful music, and to Florida Atlantic University’s Library and Judaica Sound Archives for providing the audio streaming.

Recordings restricted by copyright will only play 45 seconds to give you a sense of what that recording originally sounded like. These recordings can be identified by the words (Research Station) in the music player.
