Notes Israel Independence Day Songs

This Vistas of Israel program was aired 22 years after independence was declared in 1948. Despite the Country's infancy, it was still able to establish a fighting force, The Palmach, precursor to the Israel Defense Forces. It is interesting the the more popular military songs are not songs of war but songs of peace. There are 5 selections on today's program:

1) Sh'ir Ha'Palmach, Song Of The Palmach Fighters, is sung by the Israel Army Band and Choir.

2) I Love Bach (no Hebrew title given) is sung by The Troupe of the Armored Corps.

3) Hi'nai Matov U'mah'naim, How Good It Is To Sit Together, is a campfire song. Prior to 1969 Independence Day was celebrated by displays of the armed forces and military parades. In 1969 and again in 1970 the celebrations took place arou nd campfires throughout the State of Israel.

4) Health Above All (no Hebrew title given) is a satire on the life of a soldier and is sung by The Central Command Army Entertainment Ensemble.

5) Ha'venu Shalom Alechem, We Bring You Peace, is sung by The Israel Army Band and Choir.
