Notes Kvutzat Sha'al - A New Urban Kibbutz (narrative only)

At the time of this Vistas of Israel program, Kvutzat Sha'al was Israel's only urban collective near Carmiel, originally composed of 17 Americans and 1 Canadian. Mordachai Cohen was the spokesman for the group. The main difference between this urban kibbutz and the usual rural kibbutzim is that most of the members work outside the kibbutz, however the earnings of the kibbutz members are put into the general treasury for the benefit of all. The future looks to the kibbutz members at some time will be able to work within the confines of the kibbutz. Although they have been accepted and aided by the surrounding populace, most of the help for the kibbutz is in the form of "self-help".

Recordings restricted by copyright will only play 45 seconds to give you a sense of what that recording originally sounded like. These recordings can be identified by the words (Research Station) in the music player.
