Notes Child Health Care in Israel (narrative only)

Dr. Noram works at one of the Child Welfare Clinics in Jerusalem. This is where most infants receive medical care after leaving the hospital where they were born. She is interviewed by the Vistas of Israel narrator. Also interviewed is a patient, Yitzhuk who contracted Polio in a 1952 epidemic which hospitalized him at the age of nine months. His doctor at the Clinic speaks of his care over the last few years. Yitzhuk is in a wheelchair, but has full use of his arms and hands and should be able to take care of himself in time and even support himself financially. Although the Polio vaccine has cut down greatly in the number of new cases, there are still many handicapped children to be taken care of by the Clinic. There are also other crippling diseases that are addressed such as Muscular Dystrophy, Palsy, etc. plus injuries caused by explosives and accidents. The Clinic w here this Vistas of Israel takes place is a subsidiary of the Hadassah Hospital. Another interviewee is the head of the pediatrics department of Hadassah Hospital who believes that there should be a separate hospital for children. It is emphasized that the doctors and staff are extremely dedicated to the clinic and its patients.
