Notes | 50 Years of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem
(narrative only) On July 24, 1918 the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Hebrew University on Scopus in Jerusalem took place, 2 months after Chaim Weitzman, Helen Kagan and Dr. Edan (check name spellings) chose the location for the educational institution. It all seemed to be a dream until the founders actually saw the support that was received and/or heard from. There was a dinner celebration after the ceremony and some of the still living participants in this 1968 Vistas of Israel broadcast were interviewed. The first lecture of one of the newer buildings completed in 1923 was delivered by Albert Einstein. The growth of the University has been spectacular and the products of the students and faculty have kept pace. |
