The Recorded Sound Archives (RSA) is a unit of FAU Libraries Special Collections department. We are located in the Wimberly Library on FAU's Boca Raton campus.
Originally established in 2002 as a small project dedicated to the preservation of recorded Jewish music, it has matured into a robust digitization operation for all types of sound recordings.

| Notes | Arad - A Development Town in the Negev Desert
(narrative only) Arad is a town" in the Negev, built at a 2000 foot high point above sea level in the desert near the Dead Sea. An interview with the Mayor is conducted. At the start of the building of the town, there was really nothing there; no water, no electricity, no roads. The 1961 town was at first planned on the drawing board as opposed to a haphazard coming together of people and building helter-skelter. The average adult age is 29-30, plus children. Workers were enticed there because good livings could be made from businesses and industry not too far away. Interviews are also conducted with inhabitants. Arad started off with about 400 people and as of the time of this Vistas of Israel program, there were 4,000 living there. Schools are provided for the young and Arad is quite proud of this accomplishment. It is expected that the population would grow to an "ideal" 10,000 people. |
