Notes | An Interview with Israeli Violinist Itzhak Perlman / Itzhak Perlman was born in Israel and at 5 years of age contracted polio and at the same age started playing the violin. Because of the disease he used and still uses crutches and can only play the violin while seated. He studied violin in Tel Aviv until he was 13 when he came to the United States and continued his violin studies at the Juilliard School in New York and performed concerts. The interview with Mr. Perlman took place after a concert at The Hebrew University in Jerusalem where he mentioned his great friendship with Isaac Stern. He was asked what orchestras he played with and he gave a very impressive list including the Israel Philharmonic, which he considered the best because of the enthusiastic audience. Various opinions on musical attitudes were given, with most of them middle-of-the-road. The following 2 pieces were played by Mr. Perlman: 1) Sibelius's Violin Concerto in D MinoR. 12:36-14:30 2) Paganini's Caprice #1. 8:08-9:42 |
