Notes Songs That Made History

The people of Israel remember their great battles in song, according to the narrator of today's Vistas of Israel program. Three times in its first 20 years of existence, Israel has had to fight 3 wars in order to maintain its independence as a free and independent country. There are 3 selections on this program:

1) Bab El Wad, The Way To The Hills, is sung by an unnamed female singer(Yaffa Yarkoni?) and is about the 1948 War for Independence. 4:04-6:26

2) Mul Har Sinai, Facing Mount Sinai, is sung by an unnamed mixed choral group and is about the 1956 war where Israel fought to the banks of the Suez Canal and occupied the Sinai Desert for the first time since the days of Moses. 7:52-10:09

3) Our Sharam el Shech is sung by an unnamed choral group and is a song from the 1967 war which liberated east Jerusalem and opened in the South, Israel's shipping lanes which had been closed to her. 10:49-13:47
