Notes Israel Philharmonic Orchestra/Israel Philharmonic Orchestra's 30th Anniversary (narrative except for one selection at the program's end)

December 26, 1966 marked the 30th anniversary of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra which was held at Tel Aviv's great concert hall, The Mann Auditorium. What made the program that evening significant was that the Orchestra played the same classical works that it had played on its opening night exactly 30 years previously. An interview is held with the conductor, William Steinberg, who discusses the Orchestra's origins, of which Mr. Steinberg was instrumental along with Branislav Uberman, the actual founder. That first performance was led by the guest conductor, Arturo Toscanini to great acclaim.

1) Paul Ben Hayim, an Israeli composer, had one of his pieces, Psalm, revived during the week of the 30th anniversary and it is played here by the Orchestra. 12:03-13:48
