Notes | Civil Service In Israel David Rosolio, former Civil Service Commissioner for the Israel, is the subject of today's Vistas of Israel program and he is interviewed by the American correspondent, Boris Joffe. Candidates for positions are chosen based on competitive examinations and interviews, according to Mr. Rosolio. Positions are advertised as to the qualifications needed such as a high school or college degree and various language abilities that might be required. A candidate must be a citizen of Israel, must take an oath of allegiance after appointment and must give a statement of his assets, which statement can be requested at any time during tenure. Almost all civil service employees are members of the trade union of government officials, similar to the American AFL union for government employees. Many civil employees under the British Mandate were retained wherever possible after they were individually checked out. Once selected the employee had tenure subject to performance and were also under a pension system. The employee was also part of a training and education program leading to possible advancement. |
