Notes Folk Music Of Israel: Classical

There are a number of composers and musicians that have left their native countries to work in another such as Chopin, Brahms, Beethoven, and Liszt to name a few.

When composers and other musicians arrive in Israel the result is often a mixture of traditional European music and Eastern tempos. This broadcast present two selections that illustrate this point.

1) Dirge was composed by Avraham Dous who came to Israel from Germany. It is performed by David Brumshlad on violin and Abler Ha'aron on piano. 2:33 - 7:21

2) The Oriental Rhapsody was composed by Robert Starr and is played by the Kol Yisrael Orchestra. 8:31 - 13:30

Recordings restricted by copyright will only play 45 seconds to give you a sense of what that recording originally sounded like. These recordings can be identified by the words (Research Station) in the music player.
