Notes Economy of Israel: Interview with Cecil Hyman

Cecil Hyman, economic consular for Israel in Washington, is interviewed about the economy of Israel.

Mr. Hyman is a banker and served an Israeli Minister before moving to Washingron DC. The question of when the young country of Israel would become economically self-sufficient is raised. Mr. Hyman discusses the following factors: the rate of immigration, how fast immigrants can be absorbed, standard of living, and Israel’s productivity.

In his opinion, Israeli imports need to be in balance with exports in order for economic stabilization to occur. Under the right conditions, he predicts that this could be accomplished in five or six years.

He believed that Israel was on the right track despite problems getting new industries under way and training people in unfamiliar trades.
