Notes | Dr.Nelson Glueck Dr. Nelson Glueck was an American archeologist who flew to Israel to attend a conference at the home of the President of Israel. His specialty at the conference was a presentation he had been working on for several years about the ancient Navatian civilization in Israel's southern desert area. The sect had its primary time between 200BC and 200AD. The Navatians were originally thought to be a Bedouin people, but Dr. Glueck found 500 towns and villages built by this group and had its own capital of Petra in what was now called Trans-Jordan. He also found them NOT to be Bedouin types, but builders and creative. Jews also lived in the same areas and had excellent relations with the Navatians, although the Navatians worshipped a number of gods while the Jews worshipped ONE. He tells of the finding of a Navatian temple in which one of the goddesses has a headdress consisting of sculpted dolphins&nbs p;indicating that the people had to be sea travelers because one doesn't find dolphins in a desert. Dr. Glueck concluded his talk by indicating that more discoveries of sculpted dolphins would be made in this area in the future. |
